Assam Police Vacancy — Why Every Site Shows a Different Number (And What the Real Total Is)

Because SLPRB Assam issues multiple separate advertisements — not one unified notification. Each advertisement covers a different set of posts and carries its own vacancy count. Sites that report 1,715 are only counting the Constable advertisement; sites that report 2,972 are only counting the Forest/Fire advertisement; sites reporting 3,228 or 3,288 are combining two of the four advertisements. The real combined total across all four advertisements in the current cycle is approximately 5,734 vacancies. Always check which specific advertisement and posts a number refers to before assuming it’s the complete count.

You can apply for posts under different advertisements — for example, Constable UB (Advertisement 1) and Forest Guard (Advertisement 2) — but only if you meet the eligibility criteria for each. The critical constraint is that you must use the same mobile number across all applications. SLPRB has confirmed that using different mobile numbers across applications results in cancellation of all of them. Also note that some posts specifically state “only one post per advertisement” — read each notification carefully before applying for multiple roles.

Constable (Armed Branch — AB) is posted to armed units, Assam Commando Battalions, and paramilitary-style policing roles. Constable (Unarmed Branch — UB) is posted to regular police stations and administrative units. The physical requirements differ: AB Constable male candidates have a Chin-up event in PET (20 marks) that UB candidates do not. Both require HSLC qualification and fall under the same Pay Band-2 (₹14,000–₹60,500), but the physical demands and nature of duties differ meaningfully in day-to-day work.

Forest Guard falls under Advertisement 2 (Forest, Fire & Emergency Services and Allied Posts) and typically requires HSLC (Class 10) pass as the minimum qualification, along with Assam permanent residency. The Forester Grade I post (a higher-level Forest Department post under the same advertisement) requires a higher educational qualification — check the specific notification PDF for Forester Grade I requirements, since they differ from Forest Guard in both qualification and pay scale (Forester Grade I is in a higher pay band).

Both Forest Guard and Constable (UB/AB) fall under the same Pay Band-2: ₹14,000–₹60,500 with Grade Pay of ₹5,600.
